Ypres

Under an hours drive from the port of Calais can be found beautiful the city of Ypres where during the 1914 -18 conflict some of the heavyest fighting took place.

Spend a day visiting the "In Flanders Fields" museum an exploring the city and its surrounding before following on the next day at the nearby Palingbeek golf course where you will experience a historiacal game of golf.

Pallingbeek Golf Course

Clubhuis %20(1)small

The course was designed by Harold J. Baker, a top professional player for more than 30 years and a highly respected course architect. Baker believed that a golf course should merge naturally with its surroundings, so that not only sporting but also aesthetic considerations could be satisfied. The Palingbeek is one of the finest examples of the Baker philosophy in practice.
The result is a course of great natural beauty which offers a wide range of challenges to players of all abilities, where good play is rewarded but where the occasional bad shot is not excessively penalised: in short, an ideal course for club members and green fee players alike.

But rememeber to take your historical guide as well as your score card. Because this is a round of golf on what was once the front line during the First World War.
